Chubby Bubba

Finally!! Ruby was weighed on Wednesday and has put on a whopping 300 grams in a week. Hallelujah! 

She is now full time formula and seems to be thriving on it size wise. It gave her an upset tummy on Monday (or mummy overfed her) which resulted in a trip to the emergency department just to get checked over. Better to be safe then sorry.

 I'm still determined she has an allergy to the milk protein in the formula so we have switched to a Hypo allergenic version of the Karicare one she is on which also contains probiotics. I have been advised by a Neo-natal nurse that Karicare is the closest formulated to breast milk and I'm hoping her little tummy settles on this one. If it doesn't then Goats milk it is!

 It's so hard seeing her with an upset tummy cause my milk supply has officially gone. After much googling and talking to other mother's at the clinics, it's quite common these days. Financial stresses, lack of sleep, food and water intake are all the culprits of a diminishing milk supply. 

We have had more visitors last week with Deni and Mark visiting on the way home from their North Qld adventures and as much as I hate to admit it, Deni scored the first "non-windy" smile. She was such a good girl and we really enjoyed their visit. 

And again more gifts! Ruby has a wardrobe and now a jewellery collection to rival any fashionista. Jewellery seems to be the token gift of the Great Grandparents. She received a beautiful gold and diamond necklace with a dainty little bow charm and also a beautiful signet bracelet with her name engraved on it. Lucky Girl.

Tiny Baby

Well Ruby is almost 6 weeks and she has only gained about 150 grams :( 

I finally got a midwife this morning that was concerned about her weight and we have decided more formula because I just don't have the milk supply she needs and more feeds a day. She currently has 6-7 and we are upping it to about 10. 

All these little signs were there and I just didn't see them or knew that it was a sign of an underfed baby. Her constant frowning is a sign of her being hungry!! Her skinny little legs and her soft spot on her head (which shouldnt be as soft as it is) were all signs. Ruby is now not even on the charts for her age on weight and height because she is so small. Hard not to feel like a terrible mother but as I keep thinking to my self- how was I supposed to know? She doesnt cry for hunger and she sleeps well during the night.

The midwife we saw today can see on her charts who has been seeing her and is quite cross that this hadnt been addressed sooner. Ruby will be one well fed baby this week and fingers crossed we have some serious weight gain next week! 

Aside from that Ruby is still receiving beautiful gifts and cards in the mail. So again thankyou to all for your generosity. I have been keeping them all in a book for her so when she is older she can look back on them all and know how loved she is.

The Grandparents are in town!

Ruby has been one spoilt girl this week. Not only has she received numerous gifts in the mail from friends and family but she got to meet her other set of Grandparents who flew up for a week. 

We have been tiki touring around Mackay and it is my pleasure to announce Ruby has gone from one sleep extreme to another. She is sleeping upto 7 hours a night and just catnaps for an hour or so every few hours during the day which is fine by me. I think she is going through a growth spurt because she has doubled her milk intake at each feed from 30-50ml to 100ml and i'm finding myself having to top her up with formula to satisfy her. I too have gone from one extreme to another. I have gone from begging and praying for her to sleep at night to rushing in there after 7 hours worried that she hasn't woken up!

She was weighed and measured on Wednesday and she is now 3.3kg and grown another 3cm to make her 50cm in total. After having to rush out to buy her premmie baby suits size 00000 because she didnt fit anything else she is now starting to fit her 0000 clothes. Just.

Surprise Birthday!

Scratch the previous post! My birthday was fabulous. 

My husband organised my dear friend Ricci to fly up so Ruby and I could meet her beautiful baby boy Acer who is 5 weeks older than Ruby. 

It was a great couple of days to say the least!
