27 years young

Well today is my birthday and I am beginning to realise as I get older how non eventful they are.

Remember as a kid and you could never understand why your parents never threw a big birthday bash for themselves or celebrated much? I understand now.

Its my first birthday as a mum to miss Ruby and you think she would cut me some slack wouldn't you? She has been up every 2 hours last night for god only knows what and finally at 3.30am with heavy eyelids I gave in and put her into bed with us. There she slept peacefully until 6 where I had to give her a feed and off she drifted again.

She has received some lovely gifts from family and friends since she arrived and a big thanks to you all if you are reading this now.

Ruby is already changing so much and every day brings a new facial expression and a new curiosity on her part. Her latest obsession is staring at her hands. I wish her new obsession was sleeping at night but baby steps!

She is being weighed today so fingers crossed she has finally started gaining her weight back but unfortunately due to many issues, I'm not sure how much longer she will be breastfed-much to my disappointment.

Breaking the Vampire Baby

Well with such a great pregnancy and trouble free birth, I couldn't expect to have all three could I?

We have a beautiful baby girl who also moonlights as a vampire baby. She sleeps all day and is up all night and is constantly cluster feeding for comfort.  Oh the Joys.

Its hard to stay cranky at her when you are run down and tired and then you go and pick her up from her cot and she has that sleepy look on her face ( all parents know what I am talking about)  and your heart just melts.

We purchased a book called "Save Our Sleep" and we are hoping it does just that. Stay Tuned.

Life at Home

Well Ruby is 6 days old now and has developed a habit of sleeping peacefully all day (4-5 hour stints) to being awake all night!
She is a greedy guts and guzzles down all her milk then develops bad wind and horrible bouts of hiccups that last a good 20 mins or longer. Her whole body just convulses when she has them the poor thing. We cant believe how wide eyed and alert and strong she is!
She throws her little head back and thrashes around. I forget she is not even a week old but sleep deprivation is a cruel cruel thing.

Fingers crossed she gets into some sort of a night time sleeping pattern soon. I only have a few days before Nick returns to work and my mother flies home and then its just me and Ruby left to battle it out ourselves.

Ruby Has Landed

Welcome to the world Ruby Charlotte

The timing could not have been more perfect. My mother arrived at 6pm and by 7pm my waters had broken. After a quick trip to the hospital to confirm, I was sent home to return when I was in active labour. By 4am the pain was too much for me to handle at home, so off we went to the hospital and by 7.43am on the 7/6/13 she had arrived. Measuring 49cm in length and weighing 7.2 pounds, she was just perfect!
